Our Team

The CBL is a vibrant lab that is tackling cutting-edge problems in cardiovascular medicine. We are always looking for bright, dedicated individuals to join the lab.

Karen May-Newman, Ph.D.
Principal Investigator

Karen May-Newman is a Professor of Mechanical Engineering with over two decades of experience at San Diego State University.  Her research is focused on the interaction of cardiovascular medical devices with the human body, and has been funded by grants from NSF, AHA, the San Diego Foundation and private companies. Dr. May-Newman is the founder of the SDSU Bioengineering Program, which includes a BS emphasis, MS degree and Joint PhD with UCSD.
Dr. May-Newman is currently serving as Executive Director of STEM Teaching Learning and Innovation in the SDSU Division of Research and Innovation to improve retention in engineering and science majors.
